Child #5:  "Hurry up and get me my ice cream, please."

Dad:  "Hey, I'm letting my food get cold while I get you your ice cream.  How do you feel about that?"

Child #5:  "Weird."

Plan for Today:

Send kids off to school

Go to store for dinner ingredients and class birthday treats

Have lunch

Send youngest daughter off to school

Watch second daughter's presentation on George Washington at school

Go to store again for birthday presents

Come home, wrap and hide presents

Make birthday cake

Welcome kids home from school

Make sloppy joes and coleslaw for birthday dinner

Have cake and ice cream

Have family birthday party for youngest daughter

Be weirded out that all the kids are 6 or older

Go to bed

Experiment

I am a clock-watcher.  I have been for a long, long time.  And time causes me anxiety.  Lots of it. 

I haven't been sleeping well for a while.  Part of my problem is that when I wake up, I have to see what time it is to see how long I slept and then I watch the clock to see how long I don't sleep.  Silly, I know. 

So, I got rid of my digital alarm clock with the brightly glowing numbers.  I can't read my husband's clock without my glasses on and am too tired to get up to look at it, so I don't know what the time is during the night.  This has actually worked for the two nights I've tried this so far.  I've slept better than I have in a long while. 

We'll see if this keeps up.

Parent-Teacher Conferences

This afternoon we had parent-teacher conferences for the elementary school kids.  All the kids are doing pretty well and all have some specific things to work on.  The second grade teacher we have had her students each write their parents a letter to get at the conference.  Here was the letter I got today:

Dear Mom,

You are the best prsin I now ecsept Mrs. Chipman.  Thank you for makeing me diner.  I love you so so so so so so much.

Humble Pie

Sometimes around here we have rough mornings.  This morning was an example of that.  So far we've had bothering, crying, frustration, slamming doors and me yelling.  And it's only 8:38.  A couple of minutes ago I went in the front room to play some hymns to help calm me down, and wouldn't you know it, it helped.  The hymnbook was open to a page already and some words in that hymn were "teach us tolerance and love."  Well, I didn't want to hear that, so I randomly turned to another page.  "Let us oft speak kind words to each other" was what I saw.  Ok, I got the message.
