Ew

I just cleaned behind the fridge and oven.  I have just one word for that:

Getting rid of clutter and cleaning while listening to Herb Alpert & The Tijuana Brass.  Can there be anything better?

Less

Lately I've been feeling like I need less in my life.
Less clutter.
Less chaos.
Less mess.
Less clothes that don't fit quite right.
Less shoes that hurt my feet.
Less things I don't use or love.
Less time-wasters.
Less stuff.
Less nonsense.

I went through my clothes and shoes yesterday.  I got 2 full garbage bags full to donate to the D.I.  I'll bet I can get another bag if I go through my closet and drawers again.  I just don't need shoes that give me blisters and clothes that mock me every time I look at them. (Most of those clothes and shoes were gotten at the D.I. anyway, so it's no great loss.)

I also went through my blog feeds list and got rid of about 2/3 of them.  They were fun to read, but I don't need to check them every day.

I've really been struck by some great quotes and scriptures lately:

"Have nothing in your homes that you do not know to be useful or believe to be beautiful."
 ~William Morris~

2 Nephi 9:51 "Wherefore, do not spend money for that which is of no worth,
nor your labor for that which cannot satisfy...."

"The cause of most of man's unhappiness is sacrificing what he wants most for what he wants now."
~Gordon B. Hinckley~

I'm planning on going through every closet, box and cupboard in every room.

My house and life will be better when I am through with this goal.  I'm looking forward to it!

Gratitude

Today I am thankful for:
dinners that I don't have to make,
an awesome calling,
my kids,
and all that they teach me,
my husband,
an income,
our house,
a dishwasher, washer and dryer,
two hands that work,
books,
our silly chickens,
the garden,
good neighbors,
vacuuming,
piano playing,
the scriptures,
the Atonement,
a newly-current temple recommend,
glasses,
school,
freedom,
siblings and parents,
warm beds,
hot showers,
minty gum,
my trusty blue crochet hook,
the D.I.,
working vehicles,
testimonies,
food storage,
tears,
and....

I Just Have To Say...

that 9 a.m. on school mornings is the best time ever.
that warm rice bags on cold feet are wonderful.
that I do not like calling people on the phone.
that the movie, You Again, is cute.
that I need to put away the clean laundry.
that I'm almost done with The Book of Mormon again.
that eating less carbohydrates is hard.
that I ran out of things to write.

A Blustery Day

I really love this kind of weather.  Windy, wet and cold outside.  Inside the house it's warm and cozy.  There are no tomatoes waiting for me to can them.  I've got a Ginger Spice Cake candle burning and it's so pleasant in here.

Last night's trick-or-treating was so easy.  I didn't have to do anything.  My husband took the three youngest out around the neightborhood.  Daughter #1 went out with her friends.  My son answered the door and handed out candy.  I was in my bed reading a book.  It was so nice.  That's the way to do it!

I let each kid choose 20 candies.  The rest will either go into food storage or be turned into our dentist's office for cash.  They will send the candy to the troops overseas.  I love that idea.
