This afternoon we had parent-teacher conferences for the elementary school kids. All the kids are doing pretty well and all have some specific things to work on. The second grade teacher we have had her students each write their parents a letter to get at the conference. Here was the letter I got today:

Humble Pie
Sometimes around here we have rough mornings. This morning was an example of that. So far we've had bothering, crying, frustration, slamming doors and me yelling. And it's only 8:38. A couple of minutes ago I went in the front room to play some hymns to help calm me down, and wouldn't you know it, it helped. The hymnbook was open to a page already and some words in that hymn were "teach us tolerance and love." Well, I didn't want to hear that, so I randomly turned to another page. "Let us oft speak kind words to each other" was what I saw. Ok, I got the message.

Braces, anyone?
I just got back from the orthodontist with my son. It's kind of nice not being the one in the chair. Many of the sounds in the office take me right back 20 years. Watching pictures being taken of stretched-out mouths and seeing molds being taken for retainers and such is interesting when I'm not the one having to do it. My son gets to start wearing elastics today. I sure remember the fun of those elastics. I'm glad the next generation gets to experience this joy called orthodontics!

What the hay???
Today at 9:03 a.m. the husband and I will officially be parents of a teenager. How did this happen? Wasn't I just in high school? On Tuesday night I went with Oldest Daughter to New Beginnings for Young Women's since she will turn 12 this year. It was pretty weird to go as a parent and not as a youth. Where has the time gone??? I don't feel as old as I am. Yikes!!!!!

Inception
Well, I finally saw Inception last night with the husband. Wow! I don't think my heart stopped racing until the end. My hands kept tingling like after an adrenaline rush or sleep jerk. The hardest part to watch was when the van was falling into the water. I have recurring dreams about us driving into water and not being able to get everyone out of the car. It was a very interesting movie. I'd have liked to watch it again, but it got sent back this morning. There's not been a whole lot of movies I'd want to watch again right after I just watched it.
Out, dang cold sore!
I don't usually have the urge to curse, but when I get a cold sore, watch out! I have a strong desire to tell that cold sore where to go, how fast to get there and what to do along the way. Good thing my kids even object to words like "stupid, crap, dummy, etc." Not that I say those words much. ;)

Piano Lessons
The kids had their first piano lesson yesterday. Some kids were more enthusiastic about it than others, but they all participated. They learned where middle C is, how to number their fingers, and what FACE and EGBDF stand for. Overall it went very well. It helped that their teacher remained calm and patient and nice. I am that teacher and am very proud of myself.
