Yesterday I was going through some old letters I got from my family while I was at college. I laughed and cried a bunch. I want to share some of my favorite lines:
Brother #1:
"No matter what the derby hats may say, just go on your way."
"Have fun in your intercollegiate athletics and don't burn the hash browns."
Brother #2:
"Dad spilled lots of dots on the floor."
"Thank you for your letter. Thank you for your dots."
Brother #3:
"Do you remember Barney?"
"Pepper was licking the rug a couple of days ago."
Sister #2:
"You know what? What? That's what. Just kidding. You know what? There is a big well actually there are my glands that are hunky, chunky, biggily, wiggily, big and it is hard to swallow. Mom says it's really weird. And she says that I'm really tense. Strange phenomenons."
"Are you finally getting used to the smell of turkey plops?"
"Mom baked some oat meal cookies today....We got to have two of them, they were delisious.... P.S. The cookies had raisins."
Sister #1:
"Guess what? I got my contacts on Tuesday! Last night I couldn't get my right one out for about a half an hour....They're gas permeable.... Last night at choir practice (I wore my contacts there) J and E kept staring at me to make me laugh. It worked. E told me to get rid of the BIG tan line under my eyes."
"As you probably know, I am very excited for my birthday. I'm sick and tired of being 14. Guess who I got a note from? You'll have to guess to find out who. How was your Valentine's Day? Mine was fun. I got a chocolate rose from a boy. Can you guess who that could be?"
"I have a few questions for you:
1. What do you like the best about B?
2. Estimated: how many times do you think you guys have kissed?
3. Do you think he is handsomly attractive."
Dad:
"Just a note to send you my love. Sure do miss you!"
"Be sure to work (study) hard, but find room for fun and games, too."
"We had about 3" of white stuff last night. It was mixed with about 2 portions of lightening and thunder and a parcel of wind. It was very beautiful to behold the ensueing winter scene when morning came to pass. (How am I doing: Would your English teacher pass me?)"
Mom:
"Thanksgiving is next week. Can't wait till you come home. You can join us in our weirdness. W really gets going in the zany department sometimes.... W is now singing the song from Bedknobs and Broomsticks, traguna mercoities tecorum saitus dee."
"I cleaned five buckets of yucky rotting leaves out of the gutters on the south side of the house today. 'Twas lovely. Anyway, such exciting news wasn't it?"
"Love you oodles and gobs and bunches and lots etc."
"Hope you have a superb day. Study hard and all that jazz. Oh, and mother lecture #25 - don't forget.* Love ya, Mom * Eat healthy stuff. End of lecture."
Awww, I got teary when I read mom's. I sure miss her.
ReplyDeleteTurkey plops? Haha. That made me laugh because that's so totally Kathryn. Jacob's made me laugh quite hard too. Dots. Figures. You can tell where my teenage mind was obsessed with back then. Sheesh...
I'm glad you have those letters. I keep all the ones I have from family members. I am also glad that you posted them, especially mom's. You must have known that I needed a dose of her today.
Wow! That sure made me laugh, and cry a bit too. I can't believe I would write such silly things, because that is totally not my personality!
ReplyDeleteUm...yeah right Kathryn. ;) That is SO you! We were such silly girls back then..and now. :D Love you both!
