I finished painting and reinstalling the cabinet doors this afternoon. This was by far the largest project I've ever done by myself. And I did do it by myself. Four weeks from start to finish, with the exception of Spring Break week, was how long this thing took.
Here is a not so great picture of the before of the cabinets. Just imagine lots of very worn oak. Look at the cabinets in the back of the wonky tomatoes here. Everything was that wood.
Here is a picture of our bathroom cabinets. The kitchen ones were the same:
Here is the after:
I was able to save all but one of the hinges by soaking them in ammonia and water. The trim all got replaced and new base boards under the cabinets were put on over the old gross ones. A new vent was put along the baseboard under the sink, since there wasn't one before. All the handles are new. The insides of all the cabinets except for the 2 corner lazy susans were painted as well. That was the worst part, I thought. I nearly had to climb in some of them to get it all painted.
It's quite a difference and it really makes it brighter in here. I like it a lot!
Next up, painting the walls, since they now look pretty bad next to the newly painted cabinets!
Looks amazing! I am glad I got lucky to see it in person while visiting. The hardware really adds a gorgeous touch. Perfect choice! :)
ReplyDeleteI really like the hardware too and the whole picture looks fantastic!!! You did such a fabulous job on it and walking into your kitchen the first time was a shock! A deliciously surprised shock. :) Way to go, big sis! You did a magnificent job!
