Simplify

“We women have a lot to learn about simplifying our lives. We have to decide what is important and then move along at a pace that is comfortable for us. We have to develop the maturity to stop trying to prove something. We have to learn to be content with what we are.”

Vacation

Sleeping in (sort of), hearing the high-pitched voices of girls' pretend play, eating cracked wheat for breakfast, not having the rush of getting kids off to school, and watching the progress of a Lego head dispenser being built.  The ideal vacation morning!

Bedroom Cleaning Marathon

The kids and I just had a bedroom cleaning marathon.  I have a checklist for the kids to follow to make sure their room gets clean.  Much progress was made.

To encourage the kids to get rid of clutter, clothes that don't fit or they don't wear, and trash, I pay them anywhere from 1 cent to 50 cents per item.  Most of the kids earned $1.45 or more.  We got 4 trash bags full of stuff to take to the D.I.  I do let the kids buy things from each other if there is something they want.  Like clothes or toys.  Or the wooden chair that Daughter #1 made with her dad that Daughter #3 wanted.  This system has worked out pretty well.  There is way less crying this way than when I go through their things and force them to get rid of stuff.  I've learned.
